Ballet Jörgen is coming to the Shell Theatre for a night of laughter and love.
As one of Canada's top ballet companies, Ballet Jörgen will be showing audiences what happens if Toy Story meets Pinocchio in the classic tale, Coppélia.
The story is one of the world’s oldest surviving ballets. Dr. Coppélius, a lonely and disillusioned toy maker, creates a stunning, life-sized dancing doll name Coppélia. Hilarity quickly develops as Nathanael, one of the local villagers, falls madly in love with the doll and his sweetheart Klara begins to enact revenge to punish him.
"This is for all ages. Something like ballet is about movement, it's about enjoying how they portray it onstage and it's for all ages. Everyone's going to get something out of it," said Shell Theatre supervisor Josh Gennings.
The show's artistic director and co-founder of the company, Bengt Jörgen, was recently appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada for his work in the arts in Canada.
"He's an amazing choreographer and a great artistic director."
The show is on Thursday (Feb.28) at 7:30. Tickets are available online or at the door.
Coming up right after, hypnotist Wayne Lee will be dazzling audiences with his show at the Shell Theatre on Friday.
