People may want to cancel their plans this weekend.

Winter storms are expected to bring 15 to 30 centimeters of snow to much of central Alberta by Saturday afternoon (Feb.2).

Beginning Thursday (Jan.31), the heavy snowfall is likely to create poor driving conditions and low visibility on highways.

As such, Alberta Transportation is advising drivers to consider postponing all non-essential travel.

"Stay home if you can this weekend because it's not going to be pleasant," said Wayne Wood, spokesperson for Alberta Transportation.

"If you do have to travel out there, one of the key things that we always ask people to do during a winter storm is make sure your headlights are on."

Environment Canada has also issued a snowfall warning.
