Fall can be a dangerous time for fires.
There is a short period of time between the end of summer and before snow falls where it's pretty dry.
Fort Saskatchewan Fire Chief Shawn McKerry has a number of tips for keeping your home safe in the fall:
- Keep your yard clean of branches and leaves
- Move firewood away from your home
- Cut your grass short
- Be careful with cigarette butts
- Do not leave a firepit unnatended
"If your yard is well tended to it greatly reduces the chance of fire," added McKerry.
The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department is currently looking for part-time fire fighers. More details here.
