If you want to stay warm this winter; maintain your furnace.

Dale Robertson of Robertson Plumbing and Gasfitting has dealt with numerous furnace changes and repairs.

"People forget to change their filters and so then the motor works hard and overheats and then it fails and then you have to change the motor," said Robertson.

Tips for furnace maintenance include checking filters monthly, keep the furnace area clean and having the furnace and ducts cleaned professionally.

As to how often it needs to be professionally cleaned, Robertson said, "every household is different."

Some may need to be done every two years, while others can be left for up to seven years.
