Construction season is in full swing and police are reminding drivers to slow down.

Major projects in the area include warranty paving on Highway 21 in Fort Saskatchewan, widening preparations at the Highway 15 and 37 intersection and Wye Road improvements.

"There can be workers present at all times. Fines still apply to when people and equipment are not working," said RCMP Constable Chantelle Kelly. "Even when it seems that there is no activity in a construction zone, there may be other less obvious/hidden hazards such as fresh oil, loose gravel chips and uneven pavement."

Last year, a North West Paving employee suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car on Highway 15, near Range Road 220.

Speeding fines are doubled in construction zones when workers are present.
