Locked gas caps aren't stopping thieves in Sturgeon County.

Last week, the Morinville RCMP responded to multiple gas thefts in the area. Crooks are either siphoning gas or puncturing tanks and then draining gas from the bottom of vehicles.

Sometime between May 23 and 24, a farmer near Gibbons had a 45 gallon drum stolen. Some farm fuel from an overhead tank was also taken by cutting the hose and bypassing the padlocks.

Although they are not always in direct relation, police believe higher gas prices generally bring on more fuel thefts.

Anyone with information on gas-related crimes is asked to contact the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
