It was a big night for local firefighters.

On September 12, Sturgeon County's seven fire departments recognized firefighters of all ages and multiple long-term service members.

The event showcased the 16 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 recognition award recipients, plus 30 long-term service recipients.

"This is just a nice time for everybody to get together and recognize and congratulate each other," said Morinville Fire Chief Brad Boddez.

Some of the notable award recipients included Fire Chief Eric Lowe from Gibbons and 45-year recipient Captain David Rockwell from the Morinville department.
