Three crosswalks in Strathcona County will be painted with rainbow colours to recognize the LGBTQ+ community.
The idea was brought forward by the Strathcona County Youth Council, a group of grade 7-12 students.
"The whole idea behind it is inclusivity and diversity in our community," said Strathcona County mayor Rod Frank. "It's a symbol that we're open to everybody."
Council unanimously passed the decision.
The crosswalks will be near Strathcona County Hall at the intersection of Festival Avenue and Festival Lane.
"Strathcona County is proud to support all the various elements of our communities," added Frank.
Work will be done by members of the youth council and the public with assistance from the county. The painting should start immediately.
The county will also be sending a bus to participate in the Edmonton Pride Parade and raising a rainbow flag.
Pride Week is Jun 8-17.
