St. John XXIII Grade 1 students toured downtown Fort Saskatchewan and made a stop at city hall.

The trip downtown last week included visiting mayor Gale Katchur for a look inside council chambers.

"It's just really about engaging with them and letting them know where city hall is, where the mayor works and where decisions are made," said Katchur.

Around 80 students had a chance to do some exploring.

"They had a meeting with myself to talk about local government, but most of it ended up being them talking about how many teeth they had lost," joked Katchur.

This is Katchur's third term as mayor and something she mentioned are the "best days on the job."
