On Monday (Nov. 27), Fort Saskatchewan will say goodbye to Canada’s longest serving firefighter, Walter Thomas.
Thomas, 95, passed away in hospital on November 20.
There will be a procession from the Walter Thomas Fire Station to Our Lady of the Angels Church on 101 Street starting at 11:15 a.m. Police will stop traffic at 99 Avenue to allow the procession to pass.
Following the service, the funeral procession will travel from Our Lady of the Angels Church along 101 Street, across Highway 21, then left onto 86 Avenue to the Fort Saskatchewan Cemetery. Police will stop traffic at each affected intersection while the procession passes. This part of the procession will take place between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.
Thomas served the local fire department for 70 years. He officially retired on May 2.
