Few details were released at a press conference held Wednesday (Nov.7) morning.
 
Strathcona County mayor Rod Frank, RCMP superintendent Dave Kalist and director of emergency services chief Jeff Hutton spoke to the media about a late-night incident in Sherwood Park.
 
"The speculation isn't helping... it's all under control," said Frank, who was in the building at the time of the evacuation. "This incident is contained to the community centre and county hall."
 
Police and emergency crews responded to the scene of the reported fire around 6:30 p.m. Roads in the area were blocked off, with police asking the public to stay away due to safety concerns.
 
"Our concern right now is maintaining the integrity of a serious investigation that may involve criminal charges down the road," said Kalist.
 
Police would not comment on witness reports of an explosion. No confirmation on any suspects or injuries was provided.
