Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement.

Smoke from forest fires in British Columbia has moved into the Sturgeon County area near Morinville. The air quality is considered poor and has reduced visibilty is some spots.

Rain beginning overnight should help remove smoke from the air, with the quality improving on Tuesday.

People are being warned to be aware of the air quality when doing any outdoor activity. Residents could experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath.

Children, seniors and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
