The commute to work was a bit interesting as Mother Nature threw a dollop of winter at drivers.
With a freezing rain warning issued for much of Sturgeon County, central Alberta was walloped with a taste of winter.
"The roads are partly snow covered and icy," described Bob McManus, spokesperson for Alberta Transportation. "There are plows on the road right now."
Highways surrounding Edmonton were listed on 511Alberta as being partly snow and ice covered while highways south east of the city were considered completely covered.
In Fort Saskatchewan, drivers had to navigate slushy roads. As the temperature drops, there is the danger of the wet, slushy pavement freezing as daytime highs and overnight lows dive below zero for the next few days.
"People need to drive to the conditions, it is going to be a bit touchy, dicey and if they don't need to drive, don't do so," advised McManus.
Current road conditions are available on 511Alberta.
