With class out for summer holidays, schools zones are taking a break as well.

School zones end until the first day of the 2017/2018 school year.

"Where there's kids, we always need to be careful, especially during the summer and different hours of the day," explained Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Constable Janice Shoepp. "They're just having fun and not always thinking about crossing the street."

In Fort Saskatchewan, most school zones default back to 50 kilometres per hour.

Even though school is out, playground zones are still in effect.

"They're in effect every single day from 8:30 until one hour after sunset, it's important to remember that those times will change with the season."

Schoepp warned some schools with playgrounds may also have a playground zone in effect.
