A Fort Saskatchewan model is vying for a chance to be crowned Miss Universe Canada.

Fort High graduate Samantha Fraughton is in Toronto this week, getting ready for the 2017 version of the contest.

"It's been really fun, we went to the CN Tower, we've been going to some really awesome restaurants and today we got to visit some kids at a school," said Fraughton.

The competition is filled with 65 of the nation's top models.

"On the final night, the show opens with the top 20 being announced. From there, they compete in swimsuit and then they cut to 10. The 10 compete in evening gowns, then they cut to five and the final five get an on stage question and that's when you get a winner," added Fraughton.

Starting modelling in Grade 12, Fraughton has already competed in Miss Teen Alberta and placed in the top 15 in Miss Teen Canada.

One of the unique opportunities for the Fort Saskatchewan ambassador is she can qualify for the top 20, simply by your vote.

Miss Universe Canada will be chosen on Saturday (October 7) at the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto.
