The new Redwater Fitness Centre is a few steps closer to opening their doors.

A not-for-profit group, spearheaded by Andrea and Gary Prodniuk, undertook on the project.

"They're just chomping at the bit, just dying to open, they're working hard for it and the community is really getting behind them," said mayor Mel Smith.

The Prodniuks showed council a graphic and 3D renderings, detailing what the centre will look like once completed, along with a list of the $137,143.86 worth of equipment they plan on purchasing.

To help out, the town donated $7,500 raised from their annual golf tournament to the centre. The community has also pitched in through various suppers as well as the CFCW Little Critters hockey tournament.

Construction is expected to begin in November with the facility opening some time in the new year.
