Watch out for a fake gold scam.
 
Groups of people having been flagging motorists down, or approaching them in parking lots and trying to sell them fake gold jewelry. Generally the fake gold is offered at a very low price. The crooks have also tried to trade it for gasoline. 
 
Those running the scam typically provide a story such as having a broken or lost bank card and are unable to access their money. Some suspects have even gone as far as involving children in the scam.
 
Most of the reported suspects are driving new rental vehicles.
 
The RCMP asks that people report suspicious activity and make note of any information such as their type of vehicle, description of the individuals and direction of travel.
 
Incidents have been reported in Fort Saskatchewan and Strathcona County.
 
Anyone with information can contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
