Alberta RCMP are reminding rural residents to check their mail, often.
Police have received several calls in relation to thefts from rural mailboxes.
The thefts are not exclusive to any one community, and residents across the province are encouraged to check their boxes daily.
Those who steal mail are looking for pre-paid credit cards, gift cards and various personal information.
Aside from regularly checking on mailboxes, solutions include having expected parcels sent by registered mail and picking up online purchases from stores.
Residents whose mail has been stolen are encouraged to contact the RCMP, Canada Post and the business or agency from which the mail was sent.
If residents observe suspicious activity around mailboxes, they are encouraged to contact RCMP or CrimeStoppers. If the information leads to an arrest, the reporter of the crime could be eligible for a reward up to $2000.
