The provincial government's 2018 budget is looking to make more room for Alberta students.

20 new school projects are scheduled to begin this year.

The projects consist of seven new schools, seven replacements, three modernizations, one addition to an existing school and two projects that have been approved for design.

Ecole Pere Kenneth Kearns Catholic School in Sherwood Park will be among those slated for modernization.

The budget has allotted $393 million for the projects, which are expected to be completed in time for the 2022-23 school year.

The projects will create an estimated 4,900 jobs in the province.
