Money for significant research is on the way.
The Government of Alberta has allocated $250,000 to look into affordable housing for seniors in Fort Saskatchewan.
"Affordable and safe housing is something that we have been tasked by this government and our minister specifically to ensure that those needs are being met across the province," said Kirk Heuser, director of communications for Alberta Seniors and Housing.
Heartland Housing Foundation is one of the key players affected by the funding, they have plans (supported by council) to replace the old Dr. Turner Lodge.
The province handed out $1.4 million for seven communities through the Provincial Affordable Housing Strategy.
