RCMP are investigating a theft in rural Strathcona County.

Around 9:48 p.m. on Saturday (July 8), Strathcona County RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a home near Range Road 225 and Township Road 534.

A witness went to the property after hearing an alarm going off and saw a male leaving in what appeared to be a dark grey Chevrolet Equinox.

The male suspect allegedly entered the unlocked garage door and kicked in a door to the house. Once inside, the male took several pieces of jewelry and a wooden box containing the ashes of the property owner’s deceased mother.

The box is described as a cherry wood box (30 x 15 centimetres) with the name Mary Annie Myers and Riverview Funeral Home on a white sticker on the bottom. The box was inside a green velvet bag, along with an envelope containing a cremation certificate and a burial permit.

The male is described as early 20’s, black hair with a brush cut and round face.

Anyone with any information on the crime should contact the Strathcona County RCMP at (780) 467-7741 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
