Police have charged four people after a deranged chase around the area.

On Friday night (September 22) at around 10:30 p.m., a vehicle with several occupants drove into a parking lot (near an apartment complex) in Lac la Biche and shots were fired at two other vehicles.

At around 1:30 a.m., the Redwater RCMP were called after attempted armed robbery, a vehicle matching the description of the earlier complaint was reported to be involved. Several occupants demanded money from a person who was outside a service station in Redwater. Allegedly, a gun was pointed at the person who refused to comply with the demands.

Redwater RCMP found the vehicle and a brief pursuit ensued, it was eventually called off.

Police were then alerted to a complaint of another attempted armed robbery near Redwater. A man who was stopped roadside in his vehicle was confronted by several people, one who shot him in the arm while trying to get into his vehicle. The suspects fled and the injured man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect vehicle was found north of Wetaskiwin by Edmonton Police Services and a pursuit was initiated by the Edmonton Police Services Tactical Unit and their Police Dog Services. Edmonton, Leduc, Beaumont and Maskwacis RCMP also began tracking the suspects.

With the help of the public, five suspects were found and arrested.

At a perimeter checkpoint, there was an encounter with a second vehicle, causing an officer to discharge his firearm. That suspect was taken into custody unharmed and ASIRT is investigating the incident.

Both vehicles involved in the pursuit and confrontation were stolen; one from Caslan and one from Devon.

24-year-old Barry Monias of Lac la Biche is charged with 12 criminal code charges, including robbery with a firearm.
