The Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank received a large boost at the end of September.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fort Saskatchewan held their annual food drive, raising 12,383 pounds of food for the local food bank.

"We wouldn't be able to do it without the support of all the volunteers and the residents," said Heather Shipley, the event organizer. "It's all about the people of Fort Saskatchewan donating."

Food bags were handed out to participants who had a list of non-perishable food items that were needed on the side.

"(The food bank) told us that they look forward to this every year because it makes such a difference for their food bank."

According to Shipley, the program has continued to increase in donations every year since it started.
