A woman and her five-year-old child were taken to hospital on Tuesday night after a house fire in Fort Saskatchewan.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the blaze near 95th Avenue and 85th Street shortly after 8:39 p.m. Fire and smoke were visible from the main floor and basement of the single-family home.
Crews were able to quickly contain the fire within the walls of the home, but the fire did significantly harm the home’s interior, causing an estimated $500,000 or more in damage.
The mother and child occupying the house were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department will continue to investigate over the next couple of days.
