The Town of Morinville and Sturgeon County have finalized their joint business case for town's new $24.3 million recreation complex.
The Town of Morinville and Sturgeon County Intermunicipal Affairs Committee (IAC) have reached a consensus of the proposed Morinville Community Recreation Facility plan.
A sticking point for the two was the recent addition of a field house in phase one of the multi-million dollar project.
The two municipalities will be staying the course with the business case by making a few adjustments to finalize the document to make room for the field house.
“We are very appreciative of Sturgeon County’s continued support in finalizing the joint business case,” said Morinville mayor Lisa Holmes. “Expanding the scope of phase one of the Community Recreation Facility project to include a field house is very exciting. This facility will offer many opportunities for the entire region.”
The document will allow Sturgeon County to go to citizens for feedback to find out how much support to give as well as the timing of the facility.
"The facility will be a benefit to the region as a whole and as such we must engage with Sturgeon County residents to measure the level of support prior to making specific commitments,” said Sturgeon County mayor Tom Flynn.
Morinville, meanwhile, has established a financial plan that lets their project continue while the County consults residents without delaying the Ray MacDonald arena's replacement.
