Weather conditions for the month of January have been milder than average.
Environment Canada said the average day time high for this time of year is -7 C, which puts the weather a few degrees warmer than normal.
"We've had some ups and downs in terms of temperatures but for the month of January generally speaking it's been mild," said Environment Canada meteorologist, Dan Kulak. "Every year has its own personallity. Some years are cool and some are warm."
Snowfall in the capital region is also lower than normal this year.
"We've had a few shots of snow here and there but with this warm weather a lot of it has melted," said Kulak. "Looking in my back yard and I don't see a lot of snow compared to other years."
It will be cooler over the next couple weeks with an average temperature around -10 C. Some more snow is also expected.
