Mayor Gale Katchur has declared Friday (October 27) as Poppy Day in Fort Saskatchewan.
The declaration is to help kick off the legion's annual poppy campaign leading up to Remembrance Day.
"It's very special when you have two members of the legion come and present you with a poppy that I will wear proudly," said mayor Gale Katchur. "It's such a beautiful tribute to those who have served and protected us."
74 men and women of Fort Saskatchewan have given their lives in defense of Canada and the democratic world.
"It's a small price for us to pay, buy a poppy and show your pride, show your support for the Legion."
The poppies go on sale tomorrow and are worn over the heart until November 11. After the ceremonies are over, it is proper to remove the poppy and set it on the cenotaph or tomb of a soldier.
