A 27-year-old man is in custody after two early morning armed robberies in Edmonton and Sherwood Park.

RCMP report that the incident began Friday morning (Sept. 14) when the man allegedly stole a vehicle while armed with a weapon. A responding officer tried to stop the vehicle after spotting it entering Sherwood Park.

“The suspect vehicle fled from police and for a short period of time was lost by the responding RCMP member,” police said in a statement.

During this time, the suspect drove behind a number of local businesses where he allegedly robbed another person. RCMP said they quickly located the suspect and resumed the chase.

“During the second pursuit, the suspect drove at a high rate of speed and in an erratic fashion. The suspect vehicle eventually lost control, striking a cluster of trees,” RCMP said.

The man fled on foot but was arrested after being apprehended by a police service dog. He was taken to hospital for assessment but was uninjured.

Two RCMP members were treated for minor injuries after their truck collided with a tree during the pursuit.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
