Thieves are targeting mailboxes in Sturgeon County.
According to the Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch Association, mailboxes by Highway 2 and Township Road 570 were broken into multiple times at the end of August. There have also been reports out of Morinville in the Sunshine Lakes area.
"Generally they happen in areas that aren't visible to the public or from houses nearby," said Morinville RCMP Corporal Sheldon Robb.
Police are encouraging the public to report any suspicious behavior they see around mailboxes.
"Pick up your mail on a daily basis or as often as you can. The less you have in your mailbox, the less that can be stolen," added Robb.
Other tips from the RCMP include: arrange to have your mail picked up if you leave for an extended amount of time, make sure your mail key is in a safe place and never send cheques or cash in the mail.
