Over 30 cm of snow fell in the past couple of weeks and the Fort Saskatchewan Nordic Ski Club couldn't be happier.
In December, the area experienced warmer temperatures and a lack of precipitation.
"It's a lot of fun and the kids really enjoy it and it's also really good for the body and a great way to stay active," said Hannah Osbaldeston, coordinator with the Fort Saskatchewan Nordic Ski Club.
Cross country skiing can burn over 1000 calories per hour. Skiing is also proven to reduce stress and improve athlete endurance.
"It's a great way to get out and enjoy the weather," added Osbaldeston.
More information on the ski club and the trails in the Fort can be found here.
