A local constable has been charged following an investigation into the improper handling of a weapon.
On December 19, 2017, Constable Steve Burgess allegedly pointed a conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a Taser, at the head of an employee in the Strathcona County RCMP Detachment.
During the investigation, it was alleged that on December 9, 2015, a similar incident occurred between the same two people. Neither incidents resulted in any injuries.
Cst. Burgess was charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
His first appearance court date is August 15, at the Strathcona County Provincial Court.
Cst. Burgess has been suspended with pay since December of 2017.
