Fort Saskatchewan musician, Joe Nolan has received The Toronto Blues Society's Cobalt Songwriting Award.
The grand prize of $1000 cash was presented at the Maple Blues Awards on Jan.15, and was accepted on Nolan's behalf by award founder, Paul Reddick.
The decision was made by a jury, based on his submission of the song, "All You've Got To Do," from his upcoming album.
"The Cobalt Award is created for pushing blues boundaries and blues landscapes in songwriting," said Nolan.
Prior to receiving the Cobalt Songwriting Award, Nolan also was selected (along with The Dylan Farrell Band) to represent Northern Alberta at the 34th International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee this past weekend.
Nolan made it to the semi-finals in Memphis, and was due back in Edmonton on Sunday.
