On Wednesday evening (December 6), Nav Canada called the RCMP after an airplane was hit with a green laser while trying to land.

Despite the laser beam, the pilot was still able to land the aircraft at Villeneuve Airport.

Police are looking for a suspect who, under the Aeronautics Act, if convicted, could face up to $100,000 in fines, five years in jail or both.

Lasers can temporarily blind and distract the pilot with an intense glare, putting everyone on board at risk.

According to Transport Canada, there were over 500 reported laser strikes against aircraft in 2016.

If anyone has any information that can help police, call the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
