Mayor Gale Katchur got a very special phone call recently.
Newly-named astronaut Josh Kutryk heard of the local excitement and called Katchur to thank her and the community for the support. Kutryk was born in Fort Saskatchewan and lived here for several years.
"I was thrilled to have this opportunity to talk to him personally and to extend our congratulations," exclaimed a very excited Katchur. "I know we all share the excitement and pride to know his background and connection to our community."
She told Kutryk if he's in the area, the community would have a celebration for him.
Kutryk and Jennifer Sidey of Calgary, were chosen out of 3,772 applicants to be Canada's next astronauts.
