New regulations could be coming next year to expand school bus services in the Fort.

Currently, students must live further than 2.4 kilometres from school to qualify for bus service.

After lengthy debates about the current regulations, the government is proposing to cut that limit out of the School Act for the 2018-19 school year.

"If there is a change that would expand the number of students that would be eligible to be transported, will the government provide the additional funding required to provide an increased service?," said Trina Boymook, board chair for Elk Island Public Schools. "To expand our service to include more students on the same dollar will be difficult for any school board to manage and will drive up ride times for students."

With nothing finalized yet, the Alberta Government and School Board will have lots of discussions before a final decision is made.
