The Alberta government is making changes to the age at which kids will be enrolled in kindergarten.
As of 2020, all students enrolled in kindergarten must be five-years-old by December 31 of the school year.
"The common age of entry won't affect Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) since we made this change a couple of years ago," said Trina Boymook, board chair for EIPS.

In the past, four-year-old students were able to attend kindergarten in certain public and Catholic school systems.

"Research does point towards the older the child is when they start school, the more successful they are," added Boymook.

Education Minister David Eggen reasoned that the new limits will give students maximum opportunity for success.
EIPS and Elk Island Catholic Schools both follow the same rules for kindergarten eligibility.
