Cochrane is getting a new radio station.

The Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced Monday (Dec.3) a country music station for one of Canada's fastest growing communities. Golden West is already operating CochraneNow.com; a portal providing local news and great community platform.

The new country music station will operate with a full newsroom, hiring local people.

Golden West president Lyndon Friesen said they operate in similar sized communities across the prairies.

"We really felt the support of the community as we worked on this project to bring the radio station to Cochrane," said Friesen. "Living next door to a big city, there are lots of radio stations, but nothing that tells the stories for the local people of Cochrane. We are happy and delighted to bring this."

The new radio station is expected to launch next year.
