The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department is looking to recruit new part-time firefighters.
The department held a firefighter recruitment info session on Thursday (September 28), to show people around the department and hopefully bring in some new recruits.
"Usually, we're looking for people that have no idea what they're getting into and they jump in it feet first and we train them to do everything," said Shawn McKerry, Fire Chief of the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department. "It's going to take about six months to get new staff up to where they need to be before they can actually get on a firetruck and go to a call."
Fort Sask has upwards of six spots open, but they're looking for more than just new recruits.
"We're looking for people that are going to fit with our department that are going to be the positive and community driven people," added McKerry. "We can train them how to be firefighters, but first we want to make sure we have the strong personalities that we're looking for."
The positions are volunteer (with paid on-call).
