A Fort Saskatchewan girl is doing her part to fight cancer.

Eight-year-old Sophia Phillips has never had a real hair cut, but is about to lose her hair, for a good cause.

“I’m going to donate about 10 inches of my hair because I thought about all of the people who have cancer and their hair, it pops off, so I wanted to help with that and I have lots of hair, so I thought maybe I could donate some,” said Phillips.

She will have her hair cut off at the Hair Massacure event at West Edmonton Mall on Mar.23.

“We never did this, she came to use and said, 'I want to chop my hair off for charity so we’re actually pretty proud of her for that,'” said her father, Dafydd.

Not only is Sophia donating her hair, she’s also trying to raise $1,000. Those wishing to donate can visit Sophia's page on the Hair Massacure’s website.

All proceeds go to Children's Wish Foundation of Canada and Alberta Cancer Foundation.
