The City of Fort Saskatchewan is taking some time to acknowledge the efforts of volunteers throughout the community.
Regardless of the motivation, countless volunteers donate their time every year, including at the more than 70 outdoor events hosted by the city.
"Our volunteers generously give their time and talents to improve our community for the people who live here," the city said in a release. "Their actions show us every day how much they care and we are so grateful of their contributions."
For example, it takes over 300 volunteer hours to host the Canada Day celebrations and more than 30 hours for eight youth to organize Youthfest.
Likewise, volunteer ticket takers and ushers have donated in excess of 3,000 hours at the Shell Theatre.
This winter, 25 residents also volunteered over 400 hours to help local seniors clear their sidewalks and driveways.
In recognition of those efforts, the city recently proclaimed Apr.7-13 as Volunteer Appreciation Week.
