There’s a new Constable at the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP detachment.
Hayley Townsend took over Janice Schoepp’s role when she left in January.
Townsend's official title is the community policing and victim services liaison member.
“I’ve been employed with the RCMP for nine years. My first post was in Chilliwack, B.C.,” said Townsend.
She stayed in B.C. just under two years before getting married. Work brought the couple to Alberta and Townsend’s first provincial post was in Redwater. She spent five years with the detachment.
Townsend hopes to make a positive difference in the community.
“I feel like a lot of the time people see us in a negative fashion and they don’t really realize that we’re humans, we’re people,” she said. “I want to really be able to engage the community in a positive light, so that we’re really approachable so people can come up to us if they need our help and they’re not scared and they know that we’re going to be there to be a support for them.”
Townsend has lived in Fort Saskatchewan since 2011.
