When it snows, remember to take a few extra minutes to clear off a fire hydrant on your property.

Fort Saskatchewan fire chief Shawn McKerry urged residents to clear off fire hydrants, as the snow continued to fall on Friday (Jan.26).

“I have a fire hydrant on my property and I spent an extra couple of minutes this morning just digging it out. I wanted to take a minute to remind everybody to do the same,” said McKerry. “It’s important that the fire hydrants are always visible and easily accessible for the fire department.”

If residents take the time to clear off and around a fire hydrant, it could save the fire department seconds or minutes in an actual emergency.
