A fire advisory is in effect for the city of Fort Saskatchewan.

The city deemed the advisory necessary due to recent warm spring weather and lack of rain. The dry conditions mean fires could spread more quickly.

“Do not trust fire in these conditions. A controlled fire can become out of control in the blink of an eye. Call 9-1-1 immediately when you spot an out of control fire,” said Fort Saskatchewan fire chief Shawn McKerry.

The advisory allows for recreational fires in:
• covered recreational fire pits, pots, bowls, or chimeneas
• approved fire pits within recognized campgrounds and parks
• propane and natural gas appliances

No other fires are currently permitted.

People who fail to comply with the advisory may face fines or other penalties.

Other municipalities are also dealing with the dry conditions. Bruderheim and Strathcona County have a fire advisory in effect. Lamont County has implemented a fire ban.
