Local agricultural societies will get some much needed help.
The Government of Alberta is providing $11.5 million per year for the next three years.
"These groups don't just put on great rodeos, parades... but one of the unsung things that they do is maintaining critical infrastructure in communities," said Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville MLA Jessica Littlewood.
Buildings such as rinks and community halls are often run by volunteers.
"These have to be maintained so we can see viable communities that can stay long into the future," added Littlewood.
Rural Alberta is expected to benefit greatly from the funding. Communities like Gibbons, Ardrossan, Lamont, Josephburg and Bruderheim put on many events in the area.
Agricultural societies run about 700 facilities throughout Alberta and consist of more than 65,000 volunteers.
