A new playground wasn’t part of the plan when the federal government announced a $24.2 million rehabilitation to Elk Island National Park amenities in 2016.

Kids may be happy to know that staff have found room in the millions to make some changes to the park’s play structure.

Janelle Lane, communications officer at Elk Island, said budgeting efficiencies will see a playground replacement happening before spring.

With the playground project still in the bidding phase, details on design remain unclear for the moment.

"I can't make any promises on the playground right now, but it will have a complete facelift come spring 2019," Lane said.

The park saw wide-ranging infrastructure improvements this summer, with its fences, trails, roads, wastewater facility and visitors centre all seeing repairs and upgrades.
