A house fire woke neighbours early this morning (October 16) near downtown Fort Saskatchewan.
Firefighters and RCMP responded to the fire on 96A Avenue and Sherridon Drive just after 6:00 a.m.
Neighbours said a man riding his bike down the alley alerted them to smoke coming from the home.
"He walked around the back and said there's flames coming out of the basement window," said Stacie Hughes who lives across the alley from the smouldering home. "Thank goodness for the guy on the bike because if he hadn't gone investigating, who knows how bad it could have been."
About four fire trucks and three RCMP cruisers were on scene. Motorists are asked to find an alternate route around 96A Ave from Sherridon Drive to 100 Street.
The home is believed to be vacant.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
