It was a day to remember at the Jubilee Rec Centre.

Darian Mar was an up and coming lacrosse player, he died after being hit by a van while riding his bicycle in St. Albert. A memorial game was held for him on Saturday (June 17).

Before the game started, a moment of silence was held with Mar's Edmonton bantam Wizards teammates on the floor, the St Albert Sr Miners and Edmonton Sr Warriors.

"It was really cool to see that many people show up," said Warriors' Erik Turner. "It was great to see it for the (Mar's) in attendance, that was really what tonight was all about."

During the evening, all proceeds raised were donated to the Mar family to help with funeral costs and a special trip or purchase for their family.

"I didn't expect anything different because we all know each other, we all play with each other and we're there for each other whenever we need it," added Warriors' Greg Bouret

Other highlights included a 50/50 pot reaching $2,000, a silent auction, a Saskatchewan Rush Mark Mathews jersey giveaway and MAR77 stickers being handed out. Tthe evening raised $5,100.

In addition, the lacrosse community rallied together during the week to raise over $33,000 on a Gofundme page started by John Lintz.

The Miners continued their undefeated season as they topped the Warriors 16-5.
