There won't be extra fireworks in Fort Saskatchewan on Canada Day.

Councillor Brian Kelly spoke up in recent budget deliberations, claimng an 11 minute display wasn’t cutting it. He proposed an additional $10,000 be added to the budget to make the fireworks longer.

Trying to cut costs on a tight budget, councillors voted down Kelly's idea.

“July 1 is a very special day in Canada. It is the only day when the entire community gets together,” Kelly expressed.

The extra cash would have boosted the display to about 20 minutes.

Councillor Kelly told MIX 107 he's sponsored the fireworks in the past as a business person.

Kelly plans on coming back next year for a third go at convincing council to reconsider their decision.

Thats the only complaint I hear about our fireworks is it's too short,” he contended.
