Bruderheim was forced to spend $8,000 to replace the heater over the stands at the Karol Maschmeyer Arena.
The heater malfunctioned and at one point got so hot, it melted some of the paint on the stands. It gave out shortly after.
"Well, they need to be replaced," explained councillor Garry Bottorff. "It was an item that was budgeted for next year, but the heater didn't last, so we have to replace it this year."
The heater is beyond repair, so the town will be pulling the money from the reserve building maintenance fund to cover the cost.
"It's old, it's past it's best before date. It has to be done, there's no 'ifs' about it."
The heater will be replaced as soon as possible.
