The recent cold weather wasn't kind to the Karol Maschmeyer Arena in Bruderheim.

The town posted a notice on their website and social media that the recently renovated arena would be closed.

Issues have arisen with the water lines in the building, which was originally built in the 1960s.

"There's some open areas where the water line comes in that isn't very well insulated and the line froze up" explained director of Public Works, Dennis Tomuschat. "Our operators put some heat tape around the pipe and re-insulated the wall."

Crews discovered the frozen pipe after noticing there was no running water in the bathrooms or concession area, prompting the shut down.

The arena was closed December 31 and January 1 to let the pipe thaw.

The facility was reopened on Tuesday (January 2) morning.
